When I was a high school student, I went to Okinawa on my school trip in winter. At first, we thought why we should visit Okinawa not in summer but in winter. But we realized that this choice was better than to go there in summer later.
We went to there by plane. When we arrived at Naha airport, I felt Okinawa was very hot just like summer. First, we went to “Ryukyu-Mura”, a kind of historical and ethnical theme park. Unfortunately it was cloudy sky, but we enjoyed different cultures, and drank coconut milk. At that night, I got feverish. It might be caused by the change of temperature.
The next day, we went to “Tyura-Umi aquarium” by taxi. It was far from Naha, so we spent a lot of time on transfer. The aquarium had the largest aquarium in orient, and we were overwhelmed by the size of aquarium and the beauty of fishes. After, we went to the ruins of Nakijin castle. There were some tiny shrines, and believers of the shrine prayed deeply. They were so religious. The view from the top of the ruins was very beautiful, so we reveled in the scenery.
The third day, we visited some natural bomb shelters called “Gama”. The inside of Gama was very dark, and a river flowed. We learned that many people hid and died in the Gama, and I was very surprised. After, we visited Okinawa peace memorial park and the monument of Himeyuri. In that day we thought the past miserable history deeply and realized the importance of peace.
The last day, we went to Syuri Castle. The castle is registered as a world heritage, and “Syurei no Mon” is adopted as the design of 2000yen bill. The decoration of the dragon was given everywhere, and the castle was luxurious and splendid. And my eyes hurt because of the deep red of the wall. After, we went to Naha airport, and went back to Tochigi.
When I went back to Tochigi, I felt that Tochigi was cool, but I also thought it was just winter.
I remember it was a precious time, and I hope to travel with my family again.
I usually eat meals regularly, at 6 AM, 12:30 and 7 PM. And I hardly eat snacks, especially potato chips. But I like Japanese snacks (dango, senbei, daihuku, manjuu etc), so when I tired, I eat these with a cup of hot green tea. It makes me comfortable.
I hardly eat a box lunch which is sold at convenience store or supermarket because I don’t like to eat it. In addition, I hardly eat instant noodles. Instead, I cook for myself every day. Why? First, usually it has bad nutrition balance. A ratio of meat is too big, or there is little vegetable in the lunch box…. And it contains some food additives. These may be harmful for body. Now I live alone, so I have to take care of my health. Therefore, eating habit is one of the most important things for me. Second, finally its package becomes rubbish. If I eat it every day, the amount of rubbish must be vast. Usually these packages are made from petroleum, so (may be a bit much) it is harmful for environment to eat it. It is very “MOTTAINAI” thing. In contrast, cooking at home has less quantity of rubbish than buying box lunch. Third, cooking is interesting. I can season my favorite taste, and I can challenge new dishes every day. While I get on a train to come home, I sometimes think about a menu of the dinner. Although I sometimes feel that cooking is bother, but sometimes I’m absorbed in cooking, too. Cooking is really wonderful and interesting thing.
My parents’ house is surrounded by the rice fields and the forests. So, many wild animals (weasel, partridge, sometimes dogs and cats, etc) appear in the parents’ house.
When I woke up in the morning, I heard a scream of pheasant. It was very high-pitched and piercing voice, so anyone was able to hear it even if they were in the distance. The female pheasant was a dark color, but the male pheasant’s feather was the myrtle green, and it received light, and shined. Therefore, he was very beautiful.
My father is a staff of the city hall, and he had held a forestry-related department before. At that department, when the information that a bear appeared arrived from citizen, he went to exterminate a bear with local hunters. One day (it was a holiday), he brought a “souvenir”. It was a bear’s head! Furthermore, the hide of it was already peeled off, so it was like a heavy ball which was dyed red with blood. I asked him, “Why did you bring such a thing?”, he answered, “I called at the house on the way to the research facility of the prefecture, and I wanted to show you it.” And I asked, “Why was the hide of bear’s head peeled off?” He answered, “The whole hide of the bear was peeled off and the hunters took it home. And they took most of the meat of the bear home, too.” Though the living bear is terrible, it’s horrible to see such a vivid figure.
Sleeping Habit
Usually I can’t fall asleep in a bright room, so I turn a ceiling light off, even a miniature bulb, and make my room dark. But I can’t wake up in a dark room, so I leave the curtains open to light my room by sunlight in the morning. Therefore, the light of a signal in the immediate outside of a window considerably comes in (it is brighter than a miniature bulb), and I can’t sleep well…. What on earth should I do? Please teach me good methods.
Dream
When I was a high school student, I often dreamed a strange dream. The dream was the following thing;
I’m very happy but I don’t understand the reason. I’m comfortable somehow, so I think that I want to be in this situation forever. But such a thing cannot go well easily. I notice someone approaching me, it’s my mother! And she shouts at me….
I wake up just before shouted at by my mother in the dream, but there is really my mother in front of me! And she really shouts at me, “Wake up!!”.
Now I leave my parent’s house and live alone. Therefore, I don’t have such a dream recently. But sometimes I think that I want to dream it to wake up in the morning properly.
My hometown is Kurobane, Tochigi. Kurobane is located in Nasu, famous for sightseeing and an Imperial villa. It is about 1.5 hours from Utsunomiya (the prefectural capital of Tochigi) by car, and about twenty minutes from Nasu-Shiobara station by car. Nakagawa flows across the west part of Kurobane, and you can fish Ayu in the river. Famous products are green tea, rice, Ayu, indigo-dyeing, etc. The population of Kurobane is about 16,000. There are many rice fields, farms and mountains, so the scenery of there is very calm and beautiful.
The old days, the Toya railway ran from Nishi-Nasuno station to Kurobane, and Kurobane prospered by forestry. But the progress of motorization forced the railway into abolition, and forestry declined by the inflow of foreign lumber. Although there were the times when energy was lost, now Kurobane took back energy by the town development projects.
